Lebron James Leaves the Cavs To Get Some Heat

I think Lebron James made a smart choice by going to the Miami Heat.

This year is gonna be Lebron's best chance to win a NBA tiltle.
I think its Lebron's best chance to win an NBA title beacuse he has Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh on his team.
This year I would not be suprised if the Miami Heat go to the finals and win the title.

I heard Lebron left the Cav's because he wanted to win a championship. I think Lebron left Cleveland because he knows that he needs a good team to win a championship, so that is why he went to get some Heat in Miami.

Music video:Find Your Love

"Find Your Love", by Drizzy Drake has been one of my favorite songs. It is on top of the billboard charts. This song is personally one of my favorites. Even though Drake is not one of my favorite artists. I really love his songs.

Drake said "It's kind of like the anti-love love story. It's really about crossing lines, what was said in the first scene. It's about really understanding what's right and what's wrong and it's really easy to lose that when you're the center of attention." That's what he said inspired him to make that video and song.

I did not understand it at first, but then once I kept listening to this song it came to me that he was probably talking about losing someone. And finding something else.

Vicky & Naomi's Field Trip Tales

Field Trips are so fun. Me and my cousin are interested in going to Canobie Lake this summer. We like it because there are lots of  rides and a water park. It is hard to get there because it is far, but if you have a GPS you are all good.

We enjoy field trips at Kids Day because we get to visit many places. We went to the art museum at Wesley College, Frog Pond, and the sprinklers. Me and my cousin like other places like going to the beach. Why? Because you could play in the sand, go in the water and do other fun stuff. It is hot when you are outside of the water and its cold when you go in. We also bring our sand toys to build sandcastles.

Amanda's Perspective on The Oil Spill

The oil spill is stopping my family from doing a lot of things. First it's stopping families from getting their food normally. I'm sure those people are upset because they want some fish. Not having fish would make me mad too.

Secondly, the animals are losing their lives because of the oil spill and that is very sad for the fish, whales, sharks, and more are dying. I think people really want them to stay alive.

Lastly, I eat fish and if the fishes are dying that means the market can't get fish and with no fish I'm not happy. So people get it together!

What can we do to help the oil spill?

GREEN STREET

Green street has a lot of people walking by.

Some are riding in nice cars and some are riding in ugly cars.

People walking dogs or people with baby strollers.

Some people are even jogging around.

The train station is so loud.

You can feel it vibrating underneath your feet. There are some people at the park having fun.

Ninjas

Ninjas are cool. My favorite  Ninja is Naruto Uzumaki. He is a boy who wants to be Hokage. A Hokage is pretty much the king of the village.  He has to protect the village with his power. When he did  become Hokage, he had to do everything in his power to save the village from Pein. Pein is one of the bad guys in the show naruto. One time naruto was facing Pein and unsealed the nine tail fox that was inside him. He beat Pein and made him do a justu that made everyone he killed come back alive.

Spring Is All About Baby Season

Accidental Diva Author, Beauty Editor ,Tia Williams & Daughter

WOW!!! So, many babies I see.Walgreen's is full  of babies. I wonder if it's baby season. Baby season is when babies start to come outside. Most babies come out when it's close to spring, like on Wednesday when the temperature started to rise outside.

The baby mama's was coming out of the stores with alot of things for their babies. Also, baby season is all about the baby boom when other women become pregnant and their bellies get larger, and soon they give birth.
I am so happy about baby season! Do you think I shouldn't be happy? If so, why? I like babies and if my mom allows me to babysit I would. I like to help people out with babies.

Finally, when I see babies I always say, aww you are so cute! My mom thinks all babies like me because when I walk by them they always smile. Some babies leave their moms arms just to walk or crawl over to me. The funny thing is I don't even want to have kids when I grow up. I just love being a good role-model. Babies are my specialty! Thats why I love babies and they love meeeeee!

Happy Spring!

Happy Spring! Although, its dreary outside today I am writing to extend warm greetings from the Kids' Day afterschool program and give the world an update on our fabulous program. Well, there is never a dull moment here at Kids' Day because there is always something exciting and fun happening such as Rajon Rondo popping in to hang out with us, Ife's performance group rehearsing for their big show, or Mark, fooseball referee breaking a sweat to see who will be this years kid or staff fooseball champion.

  • Two weeks ago Rajon and his manager Matt took top token earners Amanda, Zhaune, Alexander, Jennifer, India, Steven, and Kyle on a huge shopping trip to Target. Every other month he rewards the childrens good behavior by not only taking them shopping, but being a listening ear, role-model, and friend. We are so thankful for Rajon and Matt. You guys are definitely "The Men"! It was so special to see Rajon come in last month unannounced to read with the kids and play and beat everyone including the adults in Connect Four.
  • On March 19 the Birthday Ladies are threw another huge birthday party for Abby and Kyle. The phenomenal women took advantage of the weather and planned a ton of outside activities such as wet tic-tac-toe, cookie eating contest, and parking lot bowling for the children. The Birthday Ladies always seem to put a special touch on the celebrations each month and the cakes are extremely tasty. Whether its making snowmans, gingerbread houses, or fun holiday or season themed activities. We are so excited and thankful for their efforts, dedication, and creativity.
  • Kids' Day's yearbook is almost finished thanks to our hardworking BC interns. Everyday, our interns come in and release their creative juices in the yearbook and it shows.
  • Kids' Day would also like to welcome Emmanuel, Jose, and Jesus to our program!
  • We would also like to send a huge thank you to Matt, Steven, Hannah, and Kallie our past interns. They all play a major role in making Kids' Day a special place. You guys are family and we appreciate you for continuing to support us. WE LOVE YOU GUYS!

Readers please remember to spread the word about the Kids' Day Program and news blog. Also, we have a Kmart and Target registry for anyone who would like to donate to our program please me nhill@mspcc.org for more details.

New Movie::Alice In Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland is a new movie that is coming out this Friday. It is about about this girl who falls in a rabbit hole once again, but as an adult. Alice leaves her old life behind and returns back to this new land. There is a Red Queen, Cheshire Cat, Jabberwocky and many more exciting characters. I think this movie will be kind of funny and scary.

I Love My Music: The Entertainment Industries Messages

Your walking down the street and a car passes by, it's music blasting through the windows. You are really diggin the rhythm, but you're hearing something else. Is it the tempo? No it's the lyrics, the rapper is talking about how fighting this guy who was messing with him. You know that there are better ways to solve the problem than with violence. So, what happened to the song you were listening to a few seconds ago? Nothing. Lucky for you, your smart enough to realize that song isn't being positive. It's telling you how to ruin your future, and become a criminal. It's not fun or exciting. Though music isn't the only place you get bad ideas, also from tv, your favorite character is standing up for themselves, well that's good. But, take a second look at how they're behaving. They're insulting them back, and putting themselves down to the bullys level. Just because someone's your role model or someone you look up to doesn't mean they always do the right thing. Entertainment can teach you lessons that are wrong or right, so stick to real life to become successful, and you'll be alright.

Peace and Love,

-Karolyn

Amanda sums up Kids' Day's Boston Police Department Visit

Your waiting to go to the bathroom at Stop&Shop, but someone is inside. You don't know who's inside, so you open the door thinking you are just going to use the bathroom and a then a stranger tries to talk to you. This story was told to the group by one of my peers after the Boston Police Department came to speak to the Kids' Day Program.
You should never talk to starngers because it is dangerous. When a stranger approaches you walk away or call the police, so it won't happen again!  It's your choice not mines, but I think you should ask for help.
Today 2/16/10,  police officers came to Kids' Day. They talk about alot of things. The first thing was bullying. They said that you can bully though your actions, you can bully by cyber bullying and others. I  learned a lot. They spoke about other things too. I think this is something you can pass onto other people because it will help alot.

Thanks for reading my blog post!

-Amanda

The Boston Police Departments Kids' Day Visit

Today two police officers named Officers Ramsey and Rodriguez came to our afterschool program. They talked to us about bullying. Something that is happening everywere and very often. Also they talked about sexual harrasment.
They taught us alot about bullying. Some of the things they talked about was cyber bullying. They told us that it was not nice to bully people over the internet because there are many different consequences. Some of them include bringing police officers into the situation. And you can't lie about it either because they have it all on record and you could be charged if the victim reports you to the police. Officer. Ramsey also discussed an incident where someone was being cyber bullied and the girl committed suicide.
Some of the things they talked about while talking about sexual harrasment was how you can be charged if you lift your shirt or show any of your private body parts in public. Also about how it is not good to show other people your body parts. Unless they are your parents or your doctor you should not be showing it to anyone.
Anyway we learned alot when the police officers came and we are very glad that they came. Now, we can think twice about the consequences that will happen if we make bad choices.

The Honorary Girl's Group Pledge

Girl’s Group Pledge

I am an individual in a proud group of young women

Relying on my sisters for support but not to take advantage of

And to walk on the runway of my dreams

With the friendships I know will help me become myself

A sister who will make mistakes in order to become a Women

But for now, I will be my best because I am A sister

KIDS' DAY FOR HAITI

On Wednesday, January 13 the children of Kids' Day decided to take a stand regarding the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti. 20 children marched proudly across the street dressed in colorful hats, scarfs, and gloves to the Green Street T-station to make some noise and draw attention to their cause.

They screamed, "Raise money for Haiti!". At 4:30pm Kids' Day stood outside with their red and blue painted water bottles and approached commuters for donations as they were on their way home from work. In less than 30 minutes they earned over fifty dollars, which they will donate to hip-hop artist and Haitian activist Wyclef Jean's foundation Yele.

During Wednesday's meeting the Kids' Day kiddies were extremely concerned about the children left behind in Haiti. Where did all the children go? They asked. The staff explained that children were dying and stuck underneath the rubble as they spoke and it would take a lot of effort to save their lives and money to restore their country. One of the children Jonathan Diaz excitedly raised his hand and came up with a thoughtful and heartfelt suggestion, "Why don't we donate all the money from the Yes We Can Can to Haiti."

So, democratically they all voted and decided to donate $115 from the Yes We Can Can, which is Kids' Day personal savings where they have been storing lose change and money from their allowance into for over a year.

Kids' Day staff calculated all the money stored in the YWCC and was astonished when they counted the last penny, which concluded that the children saved $230. The YWCC started by one of the Group Leaders Ife Franklin who was inspired by the election of President Barack Obama. The Yes We Can Can is a communal effort and initiative to educate the children about the importance of finances and restoring it within your community. The kids were saving for childish luxuries such as new scooters, pizza party at Roller World, or basic necessities such as arts supplies, which they sometimes lack for their program, but the earthquake in Haiti overtook the children's original plans for the money and they insisted that they would be the change that we see in their little world's.

The Kids' Day staff are extremely proud and honored to raise up such wonderful children. Sometimes as educators we really don't realize how much of an impact we have on our children, but this week crystalized our moment of clarity...

*To contribute to Wyclef's foundation Yele where 100% of the funds go directly to the people in Haiti log onto http://www.yele.org/.
